Hospital
No. 2
April 9th 1863
To
Surgn J. B. McCaw
Sir,
In consequence of the late order assigning Asst Surgeon C. A. Bates to
duty in the Alabama Hospital No 3 I have not a sufficient number of assistants
to pay proper attention to the large number of sick in this Hospital. I
therefore _____ly request that an efficient Asst Surgeon may be ordered to duty
in this Division.
Very Respectfully
S.
E. Habersham Surgeon
[in different hand:] Respy forwarded to Med. Director office. 5 assts are
not enough for 528 patients, in my opinion.

Respy returned –
Your morning report shows 1800
patients & 24 assist. Surgns exclusive of the 4 Divn Surgeons. A Medl
Officer could be sent you probably with advantage but orders will be issued that
will reduce the need(?) in this Hospl.
