A Man Shot. – A person in Castle Thunder, called Charles Carroll alias John Byas, was shot and killed by the guard on Saturday night, while endeavoring to effect escape from the institution. He had succeeded in company with a fellow prisoner, in cutting cutting a hole through the wall of the room in which they were confined, and getting into an outer apartment, whence they emerged upon the front balcony. Here they were discovered by the guard, when one of the prisoners stepped back into the room, but Carroll remained, and the sentinel fired, and shot him through the heart, killing him almost instantly. He was imprisoned as a deserter from the 54^th Virginia Regiment into which he had been received as a substitute.
