From the Richmond Examiner, 5/11/1864
THE WOUNDED. – The whole number of wounded entered at the Seabrook
Receiving Hospital up to last evening, from the battles on the Rapid Ann, was
eight hundred and seventy-nine. All are doing well, with few exceptions.
A legal gentleman of this city, well known for his philanthropy, but who
would not have his right hand know what his left doeth, has placed in the hands
of the surgeon in charge one thousand dollars, to be expended in the purchase of
delicacies for the wounded.
