THE BETHEL SUNDAY SCHOOL. - This valuable institution, the
location of which is at the corner of Cary and Twentieth streets, has maintained
its successful operation, despite the difficulties of the times. It now numbers
about 80 scholars, chiefly from among the children of indigent parents, who are
thus instructed not only in the principles of morality, but also in the
rudiments of a more worldly, but not less important education. The
Superintendent has labored with much zeal during the summer, aided only by a few
Christian ladies, who have devoted themselves earnestly to the advancement of
these poor children. If sufficient teachers could be procured, much good would
undoubtedly be accomplished among a large and much exposed class.
