From the Richmond Dispatch, 9/29/1862

Gone South. – Capt. Henry Wertz [Wirz], of the Libby Prison, started South on Saturday, with instructions to visit the different military posts, and dispatch to this point all Yankee prisoners of war found in confinement, so that they be paroled and sent home. There are no doubt now in our hands, scattered at different points, five or six thousand of these bread-consuming, non-producing animals.
